Hotel is place that has rooms for people to stay especially when they are traveling. The primary purpose of hotels is to provide travelers with shelter, food, refreshment and services and goods. However, with the development of times, the function of hotel also as a place to do business meetings, seminars, venue for the wedding (reception), workshops, national meetings and other activities. To facilitate the traveler, hotels are available everywhere especially in Jember. So that why accomodation is needed in Jember.
Now, the development of hotel in Jember are grow rapidly. It can be seen from some new hotels that have been established in Jember such as Dafam Lotus, GM88, Doho Homestay and Meotel Jember. One of the new hotel in Jember is Royal Hotel N’ Lounge. It is one of luxurious and famous hotel and has 3 star in Jember nowdays.Because of those reasons I interested to conduct my internship program in hotel. The other reasons are conducting internship program in hotel is suitable with my skill as a student of Language, Communication and Tourism Department and good for future. I chose Royal Hotel N’ Lounge Jember as the place of my internship program that located in karimata street no.50 kav. 2 Jember. Royal Hotel is one three stars hotel with 69 rooms, good facilities and good service. In this hotel I could apply my English skill, improve my skill and also got experiences to prepare my self in a real workplace.
Royal hotel has seven departmens they are Accounting Department, Front Office Department, F&B Service Department, F&B Product Department, House Keeping Department, Security and Enginering. I placed in Food and Baverage Service Department during my internship program. There are some activities like, servicing guests in breakfast time, taking order, delivering food and beverage in restaurant, delivering food and beverage in room and setting up buffet. The internship program was running from 8th March to 8th May 2017. The working hour was 8 hours everyday. For morning shift starting at 6 am up to 2 pm and for afternoon shift starting from 2 pm up to 10 pm. Every week I got one day off.
During my internship program I faced some problems. In the first week I did not know about the name of tableware and cutleries and could not explain about the content of the food. So that when there was a guest ask me about the content of the food I could not explain. To solve this problem I always ask to my senior and make a note to memorize. My senior and my supervisor also always help me when I got difficulties.
Although faced some problem I also got lot of adventages. Beside gave me knowledge about hotel industry, it also can improve my skill and gave me experiences and prepared me to face the real work place after graduation.
