Testing of Pertamax and Ethanol Fuel Mixture from Sugarcane Drops Against the Exhaust Gas Engine 4 Step 1 Cylinder 150CC Emissions

ABSTRACT

Ethanol is a fuel derived from biomass which can reduce exhaust emissions. The purpose of this study is to find a fuel mixture that produces the lowest exhaust emissions. This study uses an experimental method, where mixing pertamax fuel with 5%, 10% and 15% ethanol variations. This study uses a Gas Analyzer T161D/1 tool in the Italian Act and was conducted at the Jember State Polytechnic Automotive Engine Laboratory. The results of the study of exhaust emissions at standard conditions of CO content produced 0.29%, 7.82% and 7.15%, resulting HC 212 ppm, 759 ppm and 580 ppm. While after adding ethanol as much as 15% of exhaust gas emissions produced by 0%, 0% and 0.02%, the resulting HC 105 ppm, 26.3 ppm and 29.7 ppm. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the lowest exhaust emissions that is, the addition of ethanol as much as 15% with the results of CO levels of 0% at 1600 RPM, 0% at 4500 RPM and 0.02% at 5500 RPM, while HC gas concentration not fluctuating with the results of 105 at 1600 RPM, 26.3 ppm at 4500 RPM and 29.7 ppm at 5500 RPM. Decrease in CO and HC gas levels because the air mixture is too much compared to fuel so that in the ethanol mixture 15% CO and HC gas levels decrease.
