Web - Based Geographic Information System Mapping on Potential Agriculture in Jember

ABSTRACT
GIS (Geographical Information System) is a computer-based information system that combines map (geographic) elements and information contained in map (attribute data). It is designed to process, manipulate, analyze, demonstrate and display spatial data to complete planning, process and examine problems.
The development of information technology has presented a Geographic Information System that can help solving faced problems which already exist in the various fields in the community. It is undeniable that many Geographic Information Systems applications have been emerging at this time both web-based and desktop. But there is still little development of Geographical Information System applications that are able to provide solutions to mapping problems, especially mapping for agricultural potential in each region.
In this final project, the writer will build a web - based Geographic Information System on Potential Agricultural in Jember. This system can provide information on production results in agriculture sector in Jember, especially for chili plants which are calculated based on calculations according to the determined provisions. In addition to provide information on the production results in each sub-district in Jember, this system processes all obtained information in the form of digital maps for the convenience of information delivery. The data on the production of chili plants used was obtained from the Agriculture Office in Jember which was then processed into an appropriate and effective system. In the final result of this system will display information of regional agricultural potential that is processed into digital maps for the convenience of information delivery process. The data presented is periodic data on chili production in the last two years that can help users to determine the right type of chili plant to be produced based on the suitability of the geographical conditions for the chili plant. Finally, it is expected to help increasing the yield of each sub-district which in turn impacts on improving the economic stability of the community, especially for farmers in Jember.
