Translating An E-book Entitled Operaring System Concepts Ninth Edition On Page 24 To 44 For Student Of Information Technology Department At Politeknik Negeri Jember, Ratri Wahyu Utami, F31151848, 24 Pages, Language, Communication and Tourism Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Titik Ismailia, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Supervisor).
Translation is a process of transferring the message from one language to another language and it is being very much in use for various human activities, just to name a few are: language, business, education and others. Translation in business usually deals with documents or any kind of written text such as text book, e-book, website, brochure and many more. The examples of translation business in Indonesia are Trans Bahasa Malang and Penerjemah Bogor. For education, the result of translation can be one of references for teaching and learning activities.
In conducting teaching and learning activities in IT Department, the lecturers often use e-books as the source of material in conducting teaching and learning activities. Some of the e-books that used as the source of materials are written in English like in Operating System Subject. However, after the writer conducting interview, the student of IT Department said that most students of IT Department State polytechnic of Jember are having difficulties in catching the whole information of the e-book when they read it by themselves. Meanwhile, the lecturer explain it in Bahasa Indonesia in lecturing class.
By using e-book as the source of materials, it should help the student as well as the lecturer in conducting teaching and learning activities because it is easier to access it does not make the student carry heavy weight on their shoulder. But in the real condition in IT Department, the e-book does not help much because of the language barrier. That is why the writer decided to translate the e-book to overcome the gap.
