ABSTRACT
Research on natural fibers as reinforcement is very often done to find new materials that are more environmentally friendly, including fiber of pineapple leaves and charcoal powder which are very numerous and easily found in Indonesia. Pineapple leaf fiber and charcoal powder have different properties that attract the attention of the authors to conduct research on polymer hybrid composites to determine the tensile strength and impact toughness of reinforcing combination polymer composites in the form of pineapple leaf and charcoal powder. The experimental method was used with variations in the addition of pineapple leaf fiber and charcoal powder as much as 10%:30%, 20%:20%, and 30%:10% on tensile and impact tests. Tensile test results were 30.15 N/mm2, 41.56 N/mm2, and 63.59 N/mm2, respectively. The increase in tensile strength caused by increasing fiber resulted in greater distribution of the load and tensile loads that were able to be retained by the specimen were greater so that tensile strength increased while the impact toughness showed a decrease with the addition of pineapple leaf fiber with a value of 0.50 J/mm2, 0.44 J/mm2, and 0.38 J/mm2 because the fiber bond with the matrix is weakened.
