ABSTRACT Introduction. Microhydro Power Plants are power plants that utilize water energy as the main driving source. Water energy that is used generally is a low falls but has adequate water discharge. This study aims to make a microhydro prototype which can be used as a medium of learning and teaching processes. Methods. The type of turbine that is made as a prototype for a micro-hydro power plant is a cross-flow type turbine. Design and size are determined based on calculations using a predetermined formula that is out diameter turbine 15 cm, distance the blades is 2,6 cm, in diameter turbine is 10 cm, and the number of blades 18. Results. Variations used in making this microhydro prototype are differences in height, namely the height of 0.9 m and 1.3 m with each variation of the half and full valve openings. The average power that can be produced by a prototype micro-hydro power plant at an altitude of 0.9 m with a half valve opening that is 4.166 volts without load, 4.043 volt load of the LED light along with the load indicator is off, and 2.262 volts mini fan load accompanied by a load indicator is slow, while at full valve openings that is 6.181 volts without load, 6.059 volts of LED lights are accompanied by a load indicator is off, and 2.699 volts of mini fan load with an indicator of load is medium. Conclusions. The average power that can be produced by a prototype microelectric power plant at an altitude of 1.3 m with a half valve opening that is 6.712 volts without load, 6.579 volts LED lamp load along with the load indicator is off, and 2.301 volts mini fan load with a load indicator is medium, whereas at a full valve opening that is 8,787 volts without load, 8,227 volts of LED lights are accompanied by a load indicator is bright, and 2,922 volts of mini fan loads along with load indicators are fast.
