SUMMARY
Translating an English E-Book as Main Module in Information Technology (IT) Department Entitled Operating System Concepts, Ninth Edition Page 45 to 70, Khuliatuz Zahro, F31151625, 2018, 26 Pages, Language, Communication and Tourism Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Titik Ismailia, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Supervisor).
In this sophisticated era, people can easily get many references for adding information and knowledge. People can get the references from some books or websites on internet. Sometimes, they search references for taking a quote, comparing statements of some experts or getting a conclusion. People need to understand the references for taking information from them.
Understanding the references is importance because it shows that the readers get distribution of information from the references itself. However, understandingthe content is not easy because there is a gap between the references and the people as the readers. The gap is their references are notwritten in their native language. This gap was found in Indonesia.
Indonesian lecturers, especially in Politeknik Negeri Jember, use e-book for academic activity. But the e-book is not only in Bahasa Indonesia but also in English. Lecturers of Information Technology (IT) Department use English e-book as main modul in teaching learning activity for Operating System subject. The English e-book is not translated yet. It makes the students cannot catch the whole information well when they read it by themselves. It also makes them difficult to identify and comprehend the idea of the content in English e-book. Because of that, the writer try to find the solution. The writer as the student of English Study Program willtranslate the English e-book into Bahasa Indonesia.


The writer did interview with lecturer and students in IT Department related to English e-book. After interviewing and discussing about English e-book, he suggested the writer to translate e-book entitled “Operation System Concepts, Ninth Edition”.He thought that the lecturers and the students need this English e-book to be translated into Bahasa Indonesia because the result of translation this e-book could be easier to explain. The students also could directly know which is the text or topic in e-book that has translated. The students also said that the translation is needed for learning activity, because she wants to understand the e-book in Bahasa Indonesia that make her easier to learn it.In this case, the writer decided to take this translating activity as the topic of Final Project.
In this final project, the writer did the translation by using translation process and several procedures. The writer adapted the translation process by Larson (1998). The first was analysis. In this process, the writer understood and comprehended the text and she used word-for-word and borrowing procedures. The second was transfering. The writer translated the text from the source language that was English into target language that was Bahasa Indonesia. The writer used transposition procedure in this process. The last, the writer tested the translation. the writer checked grammar or spelling, clarity, understandability and terms.For checking the grammar and spelling, the writer gave the draft of translation to the supervisor to get correction. Then, it was given to the lecturer of IT Department. He made sure that the result of translation was clear and understandable. He also gave some suggestion and correction for the terms. Last, the writer revised the result of translation.
By conducting the final project which is about translation, the writer got some advantages for herself and others. The writer could develop her knowledge about IT field after analyzing the text to comprehend it. The writer could increase the writing skill when writing the report of the final project. Also, the file of the result is given to the lecturers of Information and Technology Department for supporting their teaching learning process.
