Relationship of Fiber Intake and Physical Activity with Total Cholesterol Levels in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease Nensi Salsabila Putri Clinical Nutrition Study Program Majoring In Health ABSTRACT Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a condition where coronary artery plaque builds up. This causes the coronary arteries to narrow or become blocked. Coronary arteries are arteries that supply the blood of the heart muscle by carrying lots of oxygen. Risk factors for CHD are divided into 2 groups: risk factors that can be changed and risk factors that cannot be changed. Factors that cannot be changed include: include age (male approximately 45 years; female approximately 55 years), male, family history, and genetic. Factors that can be changed are smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity. A number of related studies show that four CHD risk factors are smoking, diabetes, increased blood pressure and high blood cholesterol (LDL). Then grouped into the main risk factors for CHD, namely diet and lifestyle that produce weight gain such as a high fat diet and lack of physical activity. The purpose of this study is this study was conducted to examine whether the relationship of fiber intake and physical activity with cholesterol levels in CHD. This research method is an analytic survey with a cross sectional study design. The subjects in this study were 38 patients with coronary heart disease. The independent variables are fiber intake and physical activity with the dependent variable, namely total cholesterol. Statistical analysis of this study uses SPSS 16.0 for Windows with Pearson andSpearman'rho correlation tests. Conclusion: there is no relationship between the level of fiber consumption and physical activity with total cholesterol levels in patients with coronary heart disease.
