ABSTRACT
Biomass is one of the alternative fuel sources or alternative energy, either directly or after going through the biomass energy conversion process. One technology that can facilitate the use of biomass is biobriquette. Biobriket is a solid fuel substitute for fuel oil derived from the remnants of organic material through a high pressure compression process without going through the pyrolysis process. Biobriket has low carbon monoxide (CO) emissions compared to kerosene, which is 1 kg biobriquette for 2-3 hours resulting in an average carbon monoxide (CO) emission of 106 ppm, while kerosene is 250-390 ppm, so biobriquette can be said to be fuel friendly environment. Raw materials that can be used in making biobriquettes are sengon wood sawdust, which is generally made using tapioca flour adhesive. The problem is that tapioca flour is used as an adhesive material contrary to food ingredients because tapioca flour is included as a food ingredient, so it needs natural adhesives such as cashew leaves. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the level of natural adhesive of cashew leaves on the biobriquette characteristics of sengon wood sawdust, where the adhesive content used was 30%, 33.5%, and 37%. The results showed that the moisture content, density, ash content, and compressive test the more adhesive content was given, the value would increase, while the calorific value and the burn rate decreased but all values approached SNI. The best composition in SM2 is adhesive content of 33.5% (16 gr) with 66.5% (30 g) of sengon wood sawdust, where this treatment has a water content of 4.94%, density 0.45%, ash content 3 , 30%, pressure test 1,80kg / cm2, burn rate 0.23 g / s, and heating value 3872.37 cal / gr.
