ABSTRACT
Many alternative fuels as a substitute of fosil fuels one of them is ethanol, this study utilizes ethanol as a four-step motor mechine, the content of octane is high in ethanol so the mechine requires high compression ratio, to get good engine performance. This research was conducted by raising the ratio of its machine compression which was 9:1 or less to be more (10:1, 11:1, 12:1, and 13:1), ethanol content used 97% because of many are sold or traded. The result from general research are that torque and power increase along with the increase in compression ratio, the average maximum value occors at 4000rpm to 5000rpm above that speed all torque and power. The maximum thermal eficiency value at a compression ratio 13:1 which is 53,79%.
