Abstract

The use of lignocellulosic biomass for bioethanol production using acid hydrolisis method resulted the formation of compounds which can destruced fermentation process, such as formic acid, HMF and phenol monomer compound. It needs detoxification process by adding alkali in to hidrolisat before it is used as fermentation substrat. Alkali compound which is usually used are NH4OH and NaOH. This research is conducted to compare the reduction of sugar from the detoxification process for produce the best ethanol. The study used two catalysts and different strirring that are NH4OH and NaOH. The stirring time which are control free stirring time, 5 and 15 minutes during detoxification process. The result of the study, it can be conclude that the higher reduction of sugar is 19,42% which is detoxification by using catalyst NH4OH with free stirring time (less than 5 minutes).
