ABSTRACT

Biomass wastes are organic materials which is produced by doing the proscess of photosynthesis both in form of products and wastes. One of biomass wastes which its availability is very abundant in Jember is sengon sawdust.  Each month, one of sengon wood cutting industry generates average of 2.850kg of sengon sawdust which never been utilized. Based on this fact, it is very potential to use sengon sawdust into biobriquette as an alternative fuels.
The characteristics of sengon sawdust, its moisture is about 43.31% and its particle sizes are 4,760 micrometer for non pyrolysis materials and 4,000 micrometers for pyrolysis material. Tapioca powder used was 7.8% (w/v) for non pyrolysis material, and the pyrolysis material was 2.5% (w/v). Biobriquette has threated with three types of pressure that was hard (34%), medium (31%) and light pressure (25%). Biobriquette was tested its physical features (moisture, bulk density, firmness), chemical features (ash content, calories).
Biobriquette non pyrolysis which is treated by hard pressure is the best quality of biobriquette. It has calories as much  as 4.057, 719 kal/g, bulk density as much  as 0,159 g/cm3, moisture as much  as 8,18 %, ash content as much  as 1,57 % and firmness as much  as 293-2 kg/cm2. Based on the result which is obtained in the treatment of non pyrolysis hard pressure, the writers stated this biobriquette has not feasible to be used because it does not accomplish four standards biobriquette which is reviewed from American, British, Japanese and Indonesian.
